Don’t Skip the Home Inspection

Being a homeowner is an achievement, and when the legalities are all complete, you want to move in and start enjoying your new home. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and fanfare, but it is important to take a step back and think things through clearly.

One of the things a buyer must never avoid is the home inspection. It will give you a chance to take note of the faults in the property, the repairs that need to be undertaken and anything else that may need to be taken care of.

An inspection is also the only way to know if this is the property you want to buy or live in.

Here are some things you can encounter on a home inspection:

Damages

If you find that there are any existing damages, the current owner will be liable to take care of it before making the sale. If you take ownership of the property before you find the damages, the costs of repairs or replacements will have to be undertaken by you. If renting a property, it is important to find and report any damages to avoid being held liable for the repairs later on.

Get to know the neighbourhood

A home inspection will allow you to scope out the neighbourhood and get a feel for the neighbours. Take a walk around the neighbourhood to gauge its safety and amenities. Are there many families in the area or is there student lifestyle? Visit the neighbourhood at different times of the day to determine the noise levels and safety issues.

Buying a home is one of the biggest investments you will make, and it is crucial that you understand all aspects of the sale before you finalise it. A proper home inspection will reveal the inner workings of the property you are about to buy including its pitfalls.
