As modern work and family demands drive lifestyle changes, more people are finding the idea of living in a residential complex or apartment attractive. For those who are accustomed to staying in a freestanding family home living in a multi-family dwelling can be noisier than usual.
Soundproofing your apartment is not only good for you but for your neighbours as well. Not only will you keep unwanted noise out, you’ll also be keeping the noise you create in which is sure to win you the neighbour of the year award. In this two-part post we will look at six ways to soundproof your apartment.
Furnish your apartment
It may seem obvious but if you really want to reduce the amount of noise going in and out of your apartment furnish it. Furniture is the first step towards insulating noise. Look for good quality pieces in soft fabrics that absorb noise. Make sure that you get the scale correct so your furniture fills up your apartment properly leaving little room for noise to bounce around.
Insulate your walls with accessories to help absorb noise. Elements like decorative fabrics, pieces of art, green walls and bookshelves are all good examples of stylish decorative accessories that are excellent at keeping noise in and out.
Throw in heavy drapes
Replacing your windows with soundproof glass is not always practical or financially viable, this however, doesn’t mean you can’t do anything to keep the noise out. Invest in quality heavy drapes or curtains that features multiple layers of fabric. Lined drapes in particular are a good place to start.
